Happy Accidents

These are two for the most beautiful colourways I’ve encountered! Both are rich and luxurious with very vivid hues. The Sweet Fiber Yarn in Sweet Merino “Temperate” was purchased many years ago specifically for this Dreams of The West Coast Shawl. With just a few rows to go in the sample, it became clear I was going to run out. This happened right around a devastating computer crash, in which I lost all my working design files. I was in the process of opening a new business, all while in the early stages of processing my father’s passing. The unfinished shawl was tucked away in a project bag and largely forgotten.

Fast forward a decade and I finally gathered the momentum to finish this shawl. While I’m not generally one to avoid a trip to the yarn store, I was adamant to work from my stash. Luckily, a hank of Colour Adventures worked perfectly! Both yarns are almost exactly the same weights and fibre make up, the second yarn even has patches of nearly identical green. The best part is, the colour transition actually accentuates the shape and theme of the shawl. It’s hard to believe these yarns weren’t purchased together. I couldn’t have picked better, even if it wasn’t out of necessity.

The shawl hasn’t been blocked yet but will be the first finished project on my new mats, which just arrived. The pattern itself is getting a little more editing before a round of test knitting in August. Anyone interested in test knitting this, or any other designs, is welcome to join the JahDoily Knits group in Revelry. This is where I host all test knits. Pattern announcements and discount codes are also shared there.
